Poland Court Sentences Civic Platform Activist in Pedophilia, Bestiality Case
A Polish court sentenced a former Civic Platform activist to 6½ years for failing to protect her daughter from rape while her husband received 25 years for sex crimes against minors and bestiality.
A Polish court sentenced a mother to 6½ years in prison on March 19 for failing to protect her daughter from rape, while her husband received 25 years for sex crimes against underage girls and bestiality. The convictions have ignited a political firestorm as opposition figures connect these horrific crimes to Prime Minister Donald Tusk's Civic Coalition. Questions about accountability within the governing party now dominate headlines across Poland.
Przemysław L., 45, faces 25 years on 26 charges spanning sex crimes against minors, animal abuse, and recording the acts. Kamila L., 41, received 6½ years for failing to protect her daughter and complicity in animal abuse—prosecutors had sought 18 years for her. The District Court in Świdnica delivered the non-final verdicts, which await written justification before potential appeals.
Kamila L. served as vice-chair of the Civic Platform branch in Kłodzko from 2017-2021 and ran for County Council on the PO list in 2018. Despite prosecutors filing initial charges in June 2023, she served as election agent for a local KO mayoral candidate in January 2024, months after legal proceedings began. This timeline has drawn sharp scrutiny from opponents and allies alike.
Deputy Marshal Monika Wielichowska, a senior KO figure from Kłodzko, publicly supported Kamila L. during regional election campaigns. Photographic evidence shows joint appearances, contradicting Wielichowska's April 2 statement denying any private or professional contacts. "One of the convicted persons ceased to be a party member at the moment of becoming aware of the charges," Wielichowska stated. "This happened more than 2 years ago."
Prosecutors filed first charges in June 2023, creating a nine-month gap between legal action and her severance from party functions. Critics argue this delay raises questions about internal oversight and due diligence within the Civic Platform organization.
Przemysław Czarnek, the PiS prime ministerial candidate, stated the scandal "will sink the Civic Platform." He cited the party's record of funding organizations with over 1 billion złoty annually that he argues normalize perverse ideologies. "I spoke about the Civic Platform and their absolutely scandalous behavior three years ago," Czarnek told Telewizja Republika. "These people from the Civic Platform finance associations and organizations with enormous public funds that simply deal with dramatic issues."
Prime Minister Donald Tusk called any political exploitation of child abuse "an extraordinary scandal" in the Sejm. Regional KO chair Maciej Awiżeń claimed the party had no knowledge of charges. "No one in the party saw the charges at the time, and the prosecutor did not inform us," Awiżeń told Onet. "We would have to be stupid if, knowing about the charges, we entrusted her with any functions."
Aneta Łosiewicz, KO secretary in Kłodzko, described Kamila L. as "perceived as a good mother of four children" who never complained about home conditions. An anonymous senior KO politician conceded the situation is "inconvenient" for Wielichowska and "she's not handling it well."
Prosecutor Wiesław Dworczak allegedly concealed the case from superiors during the 2023 campaign. He received congratulations from Adam Bodnar's circle in March 2024. The children's protection agency ordered probation officer supervision only on May 10, 2024, nearly a year after initial charges.
Barbara Chrobak, a former State Commission on Pedophilia member, stated she was removed from court proceedings in Lower Silesia after PO took power. "I often asked myself what I offended, that I was removed from the commission," Chrobak told Niezalezna.pl. "With the coming to power of PO, I was removed from these cases."
Wielichowska criticized the "Stop Pedophilia" bill in 2020, filing an interpellation demanding suspension of legislative work. Marcin Borys, a KO councilor who spoke about the affair, was fired from his position as MPK Legnica president on April 3, 2026.
The case involves nine victims identified in Poland and Sweden, with crimes occurring from 2011 through December 2022. Police seized 600 GB of pedophilic material from Przemysław L. Prosecutors identified Kamila L. as a victim in her husband's case for being secretly filmed, creating complex legal status considerations as divorce proceedings determine parental authority.
